Hard work pays off

I failed my quantum mechanics midterm. One week later, I failed my intrumental quiz. Another week later, I failed my instrumental practical exam. After an extra few weeks, I failed my instrumental lab written exam. I am not talking about Asian failures, but real failures--something like 50 out of 100 percent. Life is a nightmare so far. I can't wait till the end of the semester.  

My father told me he was diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and was hospitalized for two weeks. My mother lived in the hospital with him.

“It was all half a year ago.” he spoke over the phone, “Now I feel even healthier than before. It is actually quite lucky to have your body warn you of a disciplined life every day.”

 

Your father was sick.

Your father informed you of his illness half a year later.

You did not accompany your father to the hospital.

You did not look after your father, and your mother lived through all those difficulties alone.

You always assume your parents to be healthy.

You never appreciate what your parents have done for you.

You are a bad daughter.

 

It wasn’t until this afternoon was I convinced that I am much worse than “a bad daughter” – I am indeed an irresponsible person.  I washed away the compound that my supervisor and I had spent a whole week to make. 

“Tea! You’ve got to be responsible for what you are doing!” Rami shook his head.

What is responsibility?

Never had I been so horrified until I realized that I couldn’t find a satisfying answer.  I have taken absolutely no responsibility in the twenty one years that I have lived through.  

 

When you were a girl back home, you screwed things up and your parents took care of them. Now you are an adult, still letting bad things happen when you can see the signs. Why? Who is going to undo your mistakes and make everything work again? No one.  Are you going to define yourself as a careless worker, a procrastinator, or a trouble maker?

You’ve got to be responsible for what you are doing.

One year ago, I realized that I could not sustain long hours of working. I blamed chemistry, my current major, for the most part. Not given prompt attention, the situation got worse. Right now I am horrified by the fact that only two of my ten hours spent in the library is productive. Lack of interest is clearly not a legitimate excuse. I have lost all self-discipline upon which all my past benefits were reaped. My life is procrastinated out. Knowing all the devastating consequences, I am yet unable to make a difference. Am I doomed to lose this battle against myself?    

Thank you for your comments, Xiangxiang. But, I think I am old enough to distinguish between the two. I am going on a novel fast for 30 days…I somehow have to regain my self-discipline and self-esteem.

来了McGill一年，终于把校园看得差不多了。说来好笑，如果不是恰逢正昀好心邀请，我可能四年都不会想到McGill还有一个校区呢！唉，好赖人家也是堂堂正正地存在了100年，却被我这般无端地藐视了......

郊区就是郊区，校舍不多，但给人感觉却也是地广人稀。蓝天、白云、绿地、红墙，再加上和美的阳光、怡然的行人、热心的导游，这里的景致，岂是只用一个“美”字可以形容的？

不虚此行啊！

很久没有更新了----与其说是无话可说,还不如说是心如死水.乒乓球和毛笔字几乎是我生命的全部.无论如何,还是家好.

下午去游泳，一出更衣室，下了一大跳----我居然是它（游泳池）的唯一。游了一个小时左右，里面人最多的时候也不过六个（包含管理员）。
